About Us
A Little History
Sew & Vac, Inc. was started by Bob Frisenda, a Poughkeepsie native. Bob served in the US Navy during the Vietnam conflict aboard the USS Intrepid. He was discharged in 1972, and three years later he used a $2,000 US Navy savings bond to start a sewing and vacuum cleaner sales and repair store in his hometown.
Later, Sew & Vac became a family venture with his wife Sue and his son Kevin, participating in all phases of the business. Customer service remains at high priority to Bob and his family. Their staff consists of trained professionals who are up-to-date on all the latest innovations and brands they carry.

Sew & Vac - Poughkeepsie Location
Albany Sewing Machine Center - Albany Location
Bob and Kevin regularly attend advanced service and repair instruction classes and are certified technicians for Viking/Husqvarna, BERNINA, Baby Lock, Janome, Brother, and Singer.
During Fall 2017, we relocated our second store in Joann's Fabric and opened Albany Sewing Machine Center. ASMC, a full-service sewing machine center, specializes in machine sales, onsite repair services, classes, and unmatched customer service.
Our Poughkeepsie store is located in the heart of the Hudson Valley. This location carries sewing machines by Husqvarna Viking, Baby Lock, Janome, and vacuums by Miele and SEBO. Our Poughkeepsie service department can tune-up or repair any make and model sewing machine or vacuum cleaner, and we carry an extensive variety of parts and accessories.
Our Capital Region's Albany store sells Husqvarna Viking, BERNINA, Janome, and can repair all makes and models of sewing machines on-premises.
Both shops have a variety of sewing classes available, taught by experienced and certified instructors. Stop by either of our stores today and find out why we’re one of the top Sew & Vac shops in New York State.
