Sew & Vac, Inc. was first started by Bob Frisenda, a Poughkeepsie native. Bob served in the navy during the Vietnam conflict aboard the USS Intrepid. He was discharged in 1972, and three years later he used a $2,000 US Navy savings bond to start a sewing and vacuum cleaner sales and repair store in his hometown.
Eventually Sew & Vac became a family venture with wife Sue and son Kevin participating in all phases of the business. Customer service has always been a high priority to Bob and his family. Their staff consists of trained professionals who are up-to-date on all the latest innovations for each of the brands they carry.
Bob and Kevin regularly attend advanced service and repair instruction classes and both are certified technicians for Viking/Husqvarna, Baby Lock, Janome, Brother and Singer.
In 2011 an opportunity presented itself to expand and take-over the Husqvarna Viking Albany location inside Jo-Ann Fabrics, and provide their first-rate customer service in that location as well.
The Poughkeepsie store carries sewing machines by Husqvarna Viking, Baby Lock, Janome, and vacuums by Miele, SEBO, Royal, Simplicity and Sanitaire. Their service department can tune-up or repair any make and model of sewing machine or vacuum cleaner, and they carry an extensive variety of parts and accessories.
The Albany store sells Husqvarna Viking and Singer, and can repair all makes and models of sewing machines.
Both shops have a variety of sewing classes available, taught by experienced and certified instructors. Stop by either of our stores today and find out why we’re one of the top Sew & Vac shops in the state.
