Poughkeepsie Beginner Free Motion Quilting

- Prepare 3 basted "sandwiches" approximately a fat quarter in size (18"x21"). This can be remnants, preferably SOLID color or TONE on TONE fabric. A "sandwich" is top fabric, batting of your choice for the middle layer and your backing fabric. Pin basted is preferred (use safety pins to baste your sandwich), but spray basted is acceptable too.
- A Sharpie marker (NOT fine point) the wider the tip the better (Yes, a sharpie marker).
- Machine Quilting Gloves, I use Machingers and they come in sizes S/M and M/L. You can use yours.
- John James self threading needles (optional)
- Empty plastic cup or mason jar with lid (this is to store your basting pins as you remove them)
- Thread color of your choice. I recommend if your fabric choices are made with light color fabrics use darker thread (NOT BLACK). If your sandwiches are made with dark color fabrics use lighter thread. You will be making samples and it is important to be able to see your stitches.
- Needles (Universal 80/12 is fine for most applications, if you are using batiks in your samples a 90/14 needle is recommended)
- Free Motion Quilting Foot: For Bernina there are many options and ANY of these will do: #9, #24, #29, #72 and #73. You can bring your BSR if you have one, but also bring one of the other feet listed. NOTE: For other sewing machine brands, if you don't have a designated free motion foot, a darning foot will do just fine.
- Bring a sewing extension table if you have one.
- A WORKING sewing machine with your standard supplies. (Scissors, bobbins, needles, thread, sewing machine manual, lint brush, tweezers, etc..)
- PLEASE NOTE: Be sure to OIL your machine AND clean under your faceplate for any lint buildup BEFORE you come to class. VERY IMPORTANT!!!
- We will be taking a 15-20 min break part way through. Feel free to bring a snack and drink.
- If you would like to make any notes, bring a notebook.
